Abstract

|
This is a preliminary study for the practicability of intelligence subscale of 16 PF(abbreviated as IS) as a mass screening test for mental retardation on draft. This study was performed in the 102 replacement battal
ion from February 25 to June
2,
1992.
IS was performed for all draftees who entered the 102 replacement battalion. Full score of IS is 15. The draftees who got score below 6 had to be tested with Korean Wechssler Intelligence Scale (KWIS)for further evaluation. 6036 dreaftees were
tested
and 223 draftees got a score below 6. As the result of KWIS, 10 were below, IQ 70. They were classified as mental retardation and returned home for reevaluation.
By the comparison of the correlation between the score of IS and IQ of KQIS, author has decided that score 5 of IS is fit for the cut-off score of IS.
As a result of this study, IS has been proved as a useful and essential test for mass screening tool for mental retardation. In the follow-up study, a test for the recognition of the distribution of borderline intelligence group, IQ 71-84, in
draftees
will be more useful and necessary because it was thought that borderline intelligence group also made many problems in adjustment in their military lives.
